Possible Fee and Amenity Changes in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is seeking comments on possible fee and amenity changes in several of the campgrounds. They are considering adding electric service to several campgrounds and making a few campgrounds FREE! Below is a summary of the changes:

Campgrounds to Get Electric Service

Several of the campgrounds may be adding electric service. This will involve a $10 per night surcharge which is pretty standard.

Campgrounds to Add Double and Group Sites

A few of the campgrounds will be adding double and/or group sites. Obviously, the fee for a double site would be twice the fee for a single site. This isn’t a fee increase, per se, but is simply adding more functionality to existing sites.

  • Day Lake Campground
  • Birch Grove Campground (group site)
  • Bladder Lake Campground (group site)
  • Namakagon Lake Campground
  • Richardson Lake Campground
  • Moose Lake Campground
  • Emily Lake Campground

Access Fee Changes

It isn’t all rainbows and glitter. A few sites will be getting new access fees.

  • Mineral Lake Boat Landing – $5 daily or $30 annual fee
  • Namakagon Lake Campground – $50 shelter reservation fee
  • Lake Owen Day Use Area – $50 shelter reservation fee
  • Valhalla Recreation Area – $75 shelter recreation fee
  • Boulder Lake Boat Landing – $5 daily or $30 annual fee (free for campers)
  • Boulder Lake Beach – $5 daily or $30 annual fee (free for campers)
  • Boulder Lake Dump Station – $5 daily (free for campers)

Proposed Free Campgrounds & Access Fee Elimination

There is a silver lining to the above fees. Part of the proposed changes include making several campgrounds free and eliminating current access fees from some locations.

  • Lake Three Campground
  • Mineral Lake Campground
  • West Torch Trailhead
  • Horseshoe Lake Campground
  • Beck Road Trailhead
  • Wanoka Trailhead
  • Brule River Campground
  • Windsor Dam Campground
  • Seven Mile Lake Campground
  • Green Lake Beach & Picnic
  • Newman Springs Trailhead
  • Kathryn Lake Campground
  • North Twin Campground

Comments about the proposed changes are being accepted from July 1, 2019 through September 5, 2019. Send your comments to:
